Residencies in Nethy Bridge
I host a programme of simple residencies from and around my home in Nethy Bridge, a peaceful village in the Cairngorms.
Residencies may be in partnership with (and selected by) arts organisations and carry a specific context or focus, or may be arranged independently with artists or other creative professionals. You may have a particular focus that relates to an interest in rural environment or may simply be about a welcomed change of place for thinking or doing.
I aim to offer assistance with organisational, logistical, networking and artistic support for residents, depending on resources available. This could involve practical aspects like assistance with shopping/transport, simple sharing of local knowledge around geography and facilities, or connecting with local partners/professionals who may assist with research interests and sharing knowledge or practice.
Residency facilities are purely the accommodation plus access to the open and varied outdoor environment. If specific building-based facilities are required (studio/dance/meeting/etc), there may be scope to work with other organisations on this.
Pine Cottage Annexe
Pine Cottage annexe is a cosy, self-contained one bedroom apartment. It is a private and secure space attached to Pine Cottage, where I live. It comprises a kitchen/dining/living space with large single sized sofa bed and wood-burning stove, one double bedroom, a shower room/toilet, porch and a private back garden. There is wifi and a TV.
The annexe suits solo/couple guests or potentially two friends/collaborators, using the small sofa-bed in the living room area. Parents/carers with children are welcome and equipment for infants can be provided.
Access is at ground level with no steps. The annexe space unfortunately does not offer standard wheelchair access specifications, particularly as spaces are tight, although I aim to improve access as and when resources allow. I will be very happy to answer or consider any access-related questions from upcoming or potential future residents.
Nethy Bridge
Nethy Bridge is between Aviemore (10 miles) and Grantown-on-Spey (5 miles). The village is surrounded by Caledonian pine forest, much of it ancient woodland, managed by various organisations within the Cairngorm National Park. There are endless routes for exploring forests, lochs, rivers, moorland and mountains on foot or mountain bike. There is a good network of level, graded paths around Nethy Bridge
Nethy Bridge has a small Spar, a farm shop and a great cafe. Supermarkets and other shops are in Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore.

Travel to/around Nethy Bridge
By rail or bus to Aviemore. Collection/drop off can be arranged and I may be able to assist with driving in the area during a residency if helpful. There is a parking space for drivers. Local buses are frequent, connecting Nethy Bridge with local towns and villages and Inverness.
Please get in touch if you would like to discuss what might be possible. I will be very happy to help or advise if this environment may be appropriate to your needs for research, creation or any aspect around your practice, either now or in the future.
Many thanks,
Robbie
